Hi!

I show you some screenshots from my homemade hotspot.
(as we say, one picture thousand words)

The OS is Mikrotik 3.30 version.

hp_omnibook x3_up.JPG

This is an HP-OMNIBOOK X3E laptop sitting somewhere in my laboratory for 2 years without any use!
There is no onboard ethernet card...

So,..it was very important to find a PCMCIA LAN card to start to use it :)

And yes!
I was very lucky :) because this laptop support 2 PCMCIA slots, so i used the second for the wifi card!

with hdd and PCMCIA.JPG

This is a D-LINK DWL-G650 modified wifi card with external antenna :)

Oh, Sorry! I forgot it!
This is the VGA Card for Omnibook! See next to card the size of a battery.

This is what i use as external antenna in my location.
It is an EnGenius for 2.4 Ghz Omni type.

Tested with ZTE MF110 3G USB stick, (yes mikrotik version 3.30 supports ZTE MF110) works perfect!

Thanks,
michalis

LOL This is great. I've got a couple systems i was thinking about doing the same with. I have a couple Orinoco Gold PCMCIA cards i was thinking about doing something similar with.

Are you using just as regular linux like Debian with coovachilli or did you dd an image of wrt/openwrt x86 over to the drive and go that route? I was having a couple issues with the x86 images myself and sata drives.

Edit: Sorry just caught the OS type/version. Was too caught up in the awesome pics and happy to see someone else thinking similarly as myself.
