I am a new user and need help on the physical topology.

Right now the show I am setting up has a basic modem/router device connected to one office PC, it is a coffee shop that wants to provide wireless access.

Where in the topology will the DD-WRT router sit?

It is best to place the hotspot router (in your case DDWRT) nearest to your internet link. This means that if you are using a modem, the router should be directly behind it, to ensure that all internet connections go through the hotspot.  You can then set the lan ports up for free access, if you don't want the wired network suers to have to go throught the splash page. is it safe to have the hotspot system router running on the same network as our credit card terminals as well?

Yes, because you can isolate users so that they won't be able to access any of your network devices. http://hotspotsystem...=7837-IJKX-3874
