I'm trying to set up a new hot spot.  Here is what I have:

PC with windows 7

Charter cable modem UBEE D3.0

Linksys wireless router WRT54GL
flashed with DD-WRT v24-sp2 build 14929

Router MAC is 20:AA:48:00:C2:E4

Connections:

Cable modem internet port >>>>> Linksys Router WAN port.

PC Ethernet port>>>>>Lynksys Ethernet port. I used this to get the router ready to go and disconnected it.

The computer has a Linksys dual band wireless adapter and does receive the network signal just fine.

I have tried this with hotspotsystem enabled with no luck, so have just done a 30-30-30 complete reset of the modem so the modem is now clean with no changes by me to the DD-WRT install.

The computer sees and connects to the wireless network just fine, but the router isn't getting Internet from the modem. WAN IP is 0.0.0.0.

I've tried setting local DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 with no luck.

Lower right task bar on computer has the wireless signal (bars like your cell phone) with a yellow ! sign showing that internet is not available even though connected to the wireless network.

I should also mention that the computer connects to the Internet just fine when directly connected to the cable modem by ethernet. I have contacted Charter to help me and the modem seems to be working just fine.

I have run the Window's 7 network troubleshooter and I have tried various things for several hours and I am stumped.

Can somebody please guide me through troubleshooting and correcting this?  I'll be happy to provide whatever information you require as best I can.

Hi Steve,

What setup method did you choose? Did you use the built in or the command based setup?  what si the ip address you get when connecting WiFi?

Thank God somebody has replied. I appreciate it!

I used built in setup.

However, I've not done a 30-30-30 reset and the router is clean, just broadcasting one SSID for dd-wrt. The computer connects to this network just fine but does not allow internet access through the wireless router.

So, as of right now, hotspotsystem is not enabled on the router, but I still can't get internet through the router.

I have now uninstalled all anti-virus software and have turned off the windows firewall.  Still no luck.

Check the WAN interface. Is it set for a static ipa ddress or DHCP?  Does the internet port light up?

The WAN light on the router is solid green but the Cisco Systems logo doesn't light up at all.

Your WAN connection is set to DHCP, but the ip address is 0.0.0.0 which means the router is not geting an ip address, which further means it can't connect to the internet.  Is the cable modem configurable? Check that it has dhcp service enabled.

I spent a half hour on the phone with Charter Cable today and they are sending out a brand new modem. I'll try again after it is installed and report on my progress. Thanks so much for your help thus far.

PROGRESS, BUT STILL NOT WORKING RIGHT

Have a new commercial grade cable modem. This modem doesn't have an "internet out" port, just LAN ports. The Linksys wireless DDWRT router is hooked up as follows (This is how the tech person hooked it up):

CABLE MODEM LAN PORT >>>> Linksys Router WAN PORT

The Linksys is receiving the internet just fine, now. Linksys logo is lit up solid yellow.

I have 2 networks set up:

The hotspot system network (not secured), and
A virtual secured network.

Computers and devices can hook up just fine to the secured network and can browse the internet perfectly.

But, devices can't hook up the the hotspot system, for some reason. I've tried with my MacBook Pro and also with my iPhone with no luck.

Here are photos of my router settings. Can somebody please look at these and help me?  Thanks so much!

You are using build 14896, which is glitched, I suggest you use build 14311, it has proven stable for me. Reset the router settings after you downgrade it.

I suggest that you add a DNS server under setup/basic setting/local dns and that you try setting a different interface for "'dhcp interface" which is udner services/hotspot. Try each setting one by one, (selecting LAN will redirect both the wireless and ethernet ports) checking the ip adress the router gives you, it should be 192.168.182.X, if you don't receive this ip adress then check to see if chilli is running:  http://hotspotsystem...=7681-YOAN-6356

Hello Tuchers, please can you post the screen of you configuration correctly ???

I have the same router, wrt54gl and the same pc with win 7.

Bat My HotSpot don't work because the pc with win 7 login fail......... and My ipod login fail, bat my pc with windows vista login perfectly.

I am very desperate because i don't understand it !!!!!!

Can You Help Me ???

If you don't need to use multiple SSIDs, then i suggest to use the HotspotWRT firmware on WRT54GL.

I use the hotspotwrt firmware, and the windows 7 and the ipod works fine...... bat the pc with windows vista and my nokia n97 login fail.......

What do you mean by "login fail"?

The login method is completely independant of browsers or devices.
